Time to take a wagon ride to our orchard or maze. For the 2007 season will be offering ___ different tours. Come and experience our farm while learning along the way. All tours will begin September 17th and go through the month of October. TOUR #1 (minimum of 8) A self-guided tour through Pumpkin Lane with a chance to see all the pumpkin displays. During your time with us we will provide each tour guests with a glass of fresh cider, a homemade donut, and as you leave a small pumpkin to take home. TOUR #2 (minimum of 15) This tour beings with a tractor driven wagon ride to our apple orchard. We will stop in the orchard for the children to get apples. Due to the week of frost in early May we have lost some of our apples. Therefore, part of the tour season individuals will be able to pick from the trees and part of the season picking will be done from large apple bins. For every 15 paid guest we will provide a ½ bushel to fill with apples for you to take home as a group. There are various educational displays in the orchard to enhance your visit. At the end of your apple tour you will be provided with a glass of our fresh apple cider and a homemade donut. Then visit Pumpkin Lane in a self-guided tour, where you will be able to view our various pumpkin displays. Each tour guest will be able to take a small pumpkin home with them. TOUR #3 (minimum of 15) This tour begins with a tractor driven wagon ride to our corn maze. Due to the drought the height of the corn in the maze is much shorter than normal. At the maze you will be able to use a passport and hunt for questions within the maze. TOUR #4 (minimum of 15) This tour is a combination of tour #2 and #3. Plan extra time since this will include the corn maze and a trip to the apple orchard. TOUR #5 This tour begins with a tractor driven wagon ride (weather permitting) through our fields, woods, and orchards. We will make a stop in the orchard so you make pick a ¼ peck bag of apples for each tour rider. After coming back to the Apple Barn we will provide you with a glass of cider and a donut. You will then be able to view the displays in Pumpkin Lane and take a small pumpkin home with you. See page two for tour prices. With tour changes, some tours have an increase cost, however any tours scheduled for September 17- September ____will be charged 2006 prices if those prices are different than the 2007 price. The tours take 1 to 1 ½ hours depending on your stay in Pumpkin Lane. Not all activities in Pumpkin Lane are open to tour groups. There are several activities that are only open on weekends. Call the number above for scheduling and other questions. Come and enjoy yourself at the farm. See you this fall:. Checking the weather for the few days prior would give you an idea on possible problems. If you do feel you must cancel, please call us AS EARLY IN THE MORNING AS POSSIBLE so we may cancel staff if necessary. (269)629-4214 TEACHER TIPS " Student name tags are helpful. " Do not assume that the bus driver knows where you are going. Included with this letter is a sheet with directions. Be sure to give it to the bus driver before you leave your building. " When you arrive, have the students remain on the bus briefly so we can instruct you to the check in area. " Divide your group into mini groups with an adult per group. " If taking the wagon ride to the orchard, and while you are strolling Pumpkin Lane, we ask that you abide by safety rules. Occasionally, we have some behavior problems. The staff at GMF will not hesitate to have those who are behaving in an unsafe manner wait for his/her classmates on the school bus if unable to stop their unsafe behavior. " Have children dress appropriately. They are coming to the country. They may get dirty, and adults as well. We suggest long pants, play cloths and old shoes. We are not responsible for soiled clothing. " Since part of the tour is outdoors, you may want to ask about BEE sting allergies and have needed supplies. While bee stings are rare occurrences, they do happen. " All of our cider is pasteurized. " Parents coming along (or you) may want to bring a camera. There will be lots of great photo opportunities! " Other helpful things might include bug spray and pre-moistened hand wipes. " On our apple tour we will provide containers needed. Do not bring your own bags. If anyone wishes to purchase additional apples, they are available already picked and bagged. " Donuts and cider may be taken back to the school instead of enjoying them at the farm. Please let us know when you arrive, if your plan is to take the donuts and cider back to school with you. " If you are going to walk the corn maze, please remember it could be muddy even if it is not raining when you come. Parents, students, and teachers are more than welcome in the market. An adult should accompany a small group of children. We will have a full line of fall items available in the market.
